MOBILE RESOURCE CENTER
People on the streets are deeply hurting, whether it is because of a bad relationship, an unfortunate circumstance, or a poor choice. Few homeless people can simply overcome their situations on their own. SLM’s Mobile Resource Center is a means of front-line street engagement to meet people where they are.
- Clothing, blankets, and coats
- Hygiene kits
- Access and referrals to housing, employment, drug and alcohol rehabs/programs, and much more…
Last year we served nearly 20,000 meals to those in need. But it’s not about numbers or physical needs only. Making ourselves available for emotional and spiritual concerns is essential. We desire to dialogue and serve in any way possible, offering a listening ear, an encouraging word, or Biblical counsel and prayer.
By serving weekly at Tompkins Square Park on the Lower East Side of Manhattan we have been able to show genuine, personal attention to the hurting, many of whom have become our dear friends. Our heart is to see people live a stable, hopeful, and successful life in Christ.

“Marcella is always smiling. She often prays with our staff and volunteers, seeking to live a full life, even though she is in poverty. Maximo loved the soup and used to sing songs for our birthdays. He struggled to walk with God until he died of lung cancer in 2012, but we visited him at the hospital before he passed. Rich is a political activist who now has an apartment. He is not homeless anymore, but he is still in need and often brings a container to fill with soup so he can have some at home.”
